Exciting news from the Morgan Adams Foundation!

Everyone at RMVR did such a terrific job supporting last year’s Race Against Kids’ Cancer, raising over $76,000 to help fund pediatric cancer research here in Colorado (mostly), that we wanted to make sure you knew about the impact this terrific organization is making. Real results effecting kids in our community are coming from your efforts as detailed in the note from MAF below. Way to go RMVR and it’s not too early to start thinking about how we’re going to top last years effort for the RAKC in July!

In our newest research update, which will go out “formally” early next year, one of the items we’ll be discussing is this:

Case Study: v600e

In the summer of 2011, the neuro-oncology group showed, through analysis of the MicroChip database funded by MAF, that certain types of brain stem tumors have a very specific gene mutation called v600e. This discovery led to the team developing a totally new treatment for these brain stem tumors, again supported by funding from Morgan Adams, and the first child in the world to receive directed therapy for this gene mutation started treatment in November 2011 right here in Denver.

Dr Nick Foreman called me just about an hour ago – so excited – to say they had just scanned the 13 year old patient we’re talking about above, and just 7 weeks into this new treatment, they are seeing near miraculous reduction of this child’s disease. Surgery didn’t work. Radiation didn’t work. But this new targeted chemotherapy agent is WORKING – and Nick said that he had never really seen anything quite like it – ever. And he had to call me to share the news!

The work you do – the hours you give, the sacrifices you make, the money you contribute and also beg from friends – it all really does lead to this. Kids coming through the other side of devastating diseases because of you. You knock my socks off – and it is truly an amazing gift that you give to us so that we may, in turn, share these moments of tremendous accomplishment with each of you.

Our very, very, very best wishes for a wonderful holiday for you and yours – and as always, our heartfelt gratitude and love —
