2009 Trans-Am Invitational

Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing is again commemorating the glory days of the Trans-American Sedan Racing Series on June 12-14, 2009 at Pueblo Motorsports Park, just south of the former Continental Divide Raceways.

The track is a 2.2-mile course with challenging elevation change, long straights, and a mix of corners including a high-speed Turn One. Passing is possible most everywhere on the track, making it great for Trans-Am racing. The elevation is 4,900 feet and requires re-jetting for those coming from lower elevations.

This event features the Historic Trans-Am sedans that ran in the early years of the Trans-Am series thru 1972. Included in this special run group will be the 5-liter Camaros, Mustangs, Barracudas, Javelins, and Firebirds and the 2-liter championship winning Porsche 911s, Datsun 510s, and BMW 2002s that raced hammer-and- tong with the Alfa GTAs. The two-liter (U2) cars will be racing side by side with the five-liter (O2) cars.

This event also features the V8 powered sports cars in the A and B-production Classes including Corvettes, GT350 Mustangs, and E-type Jaguars. This group runs the fastest of the fast production sportscars cars and the Exhibition vintage and modern racecars including late model Trans-am and Can-Am motorcars. Guests from local and regional car clubs are invited to join in this special group of racing cars. The group will consist of some of the most skilled drivers in the area in a gentleman’s (and ladies’) shoot-out. Vintage rules and mindset apply. This exciting class of cars will be similar to a Car and Driver comparison of old versus new, American V8s versus exotic sports cars and should be really fun to watch.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with practice and track orientation. One practice and two qualifying races are scheduled for Saturday. Two extended races will take place on Sunday to emulate the endurance-racing format of the Trans-Am back in the day.
Trans-Am guest speakers will be featured at a track-side dinner Saturday evening June 13, 2009 including drivers, team members, and officials who participated in the Trans-Am series. This year’s we are featuring Bud Moore’s Racing Team that campaigned the Mercury Cougar and the Boss powered Mustangs driven by Parnelli Jones and George Follmer. Spectators are invited to join this special barbeque dinner and participate in the story telling and reliving of the special times involving these special cars. For dinner tickets, please see the links on this page.
