The 2012 race season is fast approaching and it’s time to think about getting your cars ready for the season. Part of getting ready for the season is getting an Annual Tech Inspection for your race car.

As you no doubt know, there are some big incentives to get your Annual Tech done before the season begins:

First, the Annual Tech is a way to have another pair of eyes spend some quality time with your car. Annual Tech Inspections look at more items than an event tech and they aren’t as hurried. This results in better safety for you.

Second, the Annual Tech allows you to avoid three weekends’ event tech. Just show your log book (noting the Annual Tech) at the next three 2012 races and you can get an event tech sticker without the hassle of an actual event tech. How great is that?

So, get ‘er done. Here’s a link to the tech inspection form which you should fill out and do your self-inspection before presenting the car for inspection.

For your convenience our tech crews will be available to perform Annual Tech Inspections at the following locations and dates. As always, any qualified prep shop can also do the inspection, but they may charge a fee. Our guys work for free. Here is a more complete list of the tech dates:

Saturday April 14th (before Drivers’ School, and recommended for student’s race cars), 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at Bob Alder’s shop, 240 Bryant Street 80219 in Denver.

Saturday April 21st at PPIR. 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (closed for a lunch break). This is during the Drivers’ School weekend. Not recommended for those participating in the School, but it is a good opportunity for those current RMVR racers living in the southern belt.

Saturday April 28th, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at John Brosseau’s shop. John has a new address, around the corner from the old shop: now at 3878 S.Jason St Englewood CO, 80110, 303-908-0839.

Here are a couple of shops who will do RMVR Annual Tech Inspections. They will be open on April 28th for a free inspection. (Call to arrange for an individual private appointment and any fees on other dates) :

	Don Hostetter’s shop
1830 Delaware Place, Longmont CO 80501
303-709-5616

	Thomas Vintage Motors
6655 Arapaho Rd Unit E Boulder CO 80303
303-449-9112

In addition to all of the above, here is a list of individuals and other shops who are willing to do Annual Tech Inspections. Contact them directly for a private appointment and any fee they might charge:

Everyone at RMVR did such a terrific job supporting last year’s Race Against Kids’ Cancer, raising over $76,000 to help fund pediatric cancer research here in Colorado (mostly), that we wanted to make sure you knew about the impact this terrific organization is making. Real results effecting kids in our community are coming from your efforts as detailed in the note from MAF below. Way to go RMVR and it’s not too early to start thinking about how we’re going to top last years effort for the RAKC in July!

In our newest research update, which will go out “formally” early next year, one of the items we’ll be discussing is this:

Case Study: v600e

In the summer of 2011, the neuro-oncology group showed, through analysis of the MicroChip database funded by MAF, that certain types of brain stem tumors have a very specific gene mutation called v600e. This discovery led to the team developing a totally new treatment for these brain stem tumors, again supported by funding from Morgan Adams, and the first child in the world to receive directed therapy for this gene mutation started treatment in November 2011 right here in Denver.

Dr Nick Foreman called me just about an hour ago – so excited – to say they had just scanned the 13 year old patient we’re talking about above, and just 7 weeks into this new treatment, they are seeing near miraculous reduction of this child’s disease. Surgery didn’t work. Radiation didn’t work. But this new targeted chemotherapy agent is WORKING – and Nick said that he had never really seen anything quite like it – ever. And he had to call me to share the news!

The work you do – the hours you give, the sacrifices you make, the money you contribute and also beg from friends – it all really does lead to this. Kids coming through the other side of devastating diseases because of you. You knock my socks off – and it is truly an amazing gift that you give to us so that we may, in turn, share these moments of tremendous accomplishment with each of you.

Our very, very, very best wishes for a wonderful holiday for you and yours – and as always, our heartfelt gratitude and love —
This is an unlimited open-road racing challenge held on high quality paved highways in northern Mexico, 145 miles west of Presidio, Texas, and 220 miles south of Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

The Express is a weekend event; close to the USA, feasible without a support crew, run on high quality open roads in sparsely populated areas, scenic, relatively inexpensive, and based from the same hotel each night. The weather is usually sunny and pleasant and rain is usually not a factor. The roads are excellent in this part of Mexico.

Any car from any era is eligible if equipped with eligible safety equipment. Cars without roll cages may participate in the Tour. There are eight classes of modern cars eligible, nine Pan Am classes, plus Mexican rally classes. The regularity rally and Tour cars are not classified by engine size. A navigator is required in all cars, in all classes.

The Chihuahua Express is a great way to test your car for Pan Am and learn how to drive and navigate in a Mexican stage rally. Drive at your own speed or race the wind!

Special offer for RMVR members: If you come down, just for a day or two, we will provide a free slot in the Tour (worth $1200) and a navigator. The four-star HQ hotel, pictured, is only 230 miles south of Santa Teresa, New Mexico—safe four-lane road or toll road the whole way.

There are some changes from the schools of the past few years. This school will be a stand alone event for the first time since 2005. The venue has also changed. We will be using the great facilities at Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR) in Fountain, Colorado, which is right off of I-25 and just south of Colorado Springs.

As we have done for the past few years, we will be offering two distinct schools. For those that are interested in acquiring their RMVR Competition License, the Competition School will start you on your way to achieving a license that will allow you to participate in all of the RMVR races as well as race with many other vintage clubs around the country. You get two full days of track time, instruction, and classroom sessions for only $350.00. By the end of the weekend, you will have the skills necessary to control a race car at speed.

For those that are not sure if they want to race wheel to wheel or don’t have a race car yet, the Precision Driving School is for you. If you want to be a safer driver on the street with your everyday car or you have a high performance car and just want to get more out of it at track days or you want to let your inner Mario out and experience the thrill of track driving the Precision Driving School is perfect for those individuals. With two full days of track time, classroom sessions, and some of the best instructors in the state, the low cost of $250.00 makes this the best value around for any school.

Our August charity event was a huge success, attended by 140 race entrants and lots of spectators. RMVR raised almost $76,000 for The Morgan Adams Foundation which funds early stage pediatric cancer research! More than 100 RMVR members participated in the fundraising effort. And special thanks to the corporate sponsors, Brown & Tedstrom, Colorado Business Bank, DTC and Live Oak Bank.

And what a race weekend it was with a special run group of Vintage Formula B and Formula C cars leading the way. The 140 car turnout was our best turnout since the grand opening of our new track at High Plains Raceway.

Truly a great Race Against Kids’ Cancer!

2011 marked the first year in many that RMVR has supported a charity at one of our races. After polling our membership for their preference for the type of charity to support, we chose one aimed at helping children, mostly through local efforts. The Morgan Adams Foundation which funds early stage pediatric cancer research seemed the perfect choice for RMVR and was selected for our first Race Against Kids’ Cancer.

Working closely with a team from the Morgan Adams Foundation and a core group of RMVR members we were able to inform and encourage RMVR membership to approach friends and family, work associates and business contacts to make sponsorship donations to the Morgan Adams Foundation prior to the race. More than 100 RMVR members participated in the fundraising effort and over 30 members exceeded the goal of $500+ in race sponsorship!

The race was the show where all of this came together, and what a race it was! With a special run group of Vintage Formula B and Formula C cars leading the way, the racing was exciting and competitive throughout the different groups. In fact, with 140 entries, the Race Against Kids’ Cancer was our best turnout since the grand opening of our new track at High Plains Raceway. There was much to see and do over the weekend including a 3 aircraft F-16 flyover, a special Indy car track record attempt, lunch rides where spectators could purchase a chance to ride in an exotic sports car or vintage race car to see the entire track at speed. Spectators could also purchase the opportunity to flag a race from the starters stand, buy t-shirts and a special commemorative race poster as well as participate in an driver autograph contest (for younger fans).

Of course our main goal was to raise funds for the Morgan Adams Foundation, so when all was said and done we and the foundation were delighted to see RMVR contribute over $76,000 to the effort to find cures to pediatric cancer. Truly a great Race Against Kids’ Cancer!
