The 2012 Drivers’ School will not be your typical RMVR School! And not just for new drivers!

It has been confirmed that RMVR will have a big name professional driver as a guest instructor our 2012 Drivers School. Through the efforts of Bob Raub and 3R Racing, Randy Pobst will help out with instructing at the School. Randy is a 2 time SCCA National Champion, a 4 time World Challenge series Champion, and 2 time winner at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Randy will be at the classroom session on Friday evening, at the track all day on Saturday, and until noon on Sunday. If you have ever thought about attending the Precision or Competition Schools, this is definitely the time to do it. Whether you have been racing for 2 years or 15 years, RMVR members are encouraged to consider signing up for this event (space for veterans will be limited to ensure plenty of room for the students.) Here’s what Lynn Fangue, Chief Driving Instructor, has to say, “We are very excited to have someone of the caliber of Randy Pobst associated with our school. He is excited about the opportunity to offer our students his expertise and to drive some of our vintage cars at the lunch rides both days. This is shaping up to be our best school ever. There will be some other firsts at this event as well.” Veteran drivers, you will be able to sit in on all of the classroom sessions and have a special session exclusively with Randy, or go through the full school again with all of the track time students get. Pricing for the veterans will be determined shortly.

One of the other “firsts” Lynn is referring to is track time. The plan is to have over three hours of track time for both the Precision and Competition students. Having separate groups this year will maximize your track sessions, and allow the curriculum for the Precision students to be modified to better target their needs.

Another first is the opportunity to participate in a Skid Pad session on Friday afternoon. This will be open to both student and veteran drivers. If you have never done this or it has been awhile, it is a great chance to see how your car does in “steady state cornering.” You can clearly identify over steer or under steer conditions and get some ideas as to how to correct them.

Tell a friend, tell a neighbor, tell a co-worker—this will be a great event and the best value anywhere! Keep an eye on the RMVR web site for more details as they emerge. Register soon—space is limited!

RMVR has a plethora of choices in cars and classes to go vintage racing. There is something for everyone! But that variety means lots of choices and lots of decisions and, as a by-product, lots of rules. The following guide will aid you in the process of submitting your car for eligibility.

To prepare a car for RMVR eligibility, you should first be sure to read the appropriate RMVR rules for preparation of your car. No sense in making modifications to the car only to find out the modifications aren’t legal.

In most cases, RMVR’s rules for preparing cars are based on previous versions of SCCA’s General Competition Rules (GCR) including the appropriate SCCA Production Car Specifications (PCS) or GT Car Specifications (GTCS) for that era. Cars must also conform to RMVR Exceptions to those rules. Those exceptions exist for a variety of reasons (updated safety, allowing some other modifications, or clarifying some SCCA ambiguity). Be sure to read and understand all these documents related to your race car.

In addition to the rules, the Application For Eligibility form is specific to your particular class of car. To help you find the correct rules and application, please refer to the table below. We have Specialists on the Eligibility Team to help you. The names, phone numbers and email addresses of those Specialists are provided in the respective Applications. Please work with the Specialist on any questions you might have prior to submitting the competed form.

The Eligibility Specialist will then review your application and advise you in writing of its acceptance or (hopefully not) rejection. If your application is accepted, you’ll receive a fresh RMVR Logbook and the assigned number for the car. If it is rejected, the letter will explain the deficiency. The Specialist will be available to work with you to resolve any issues.

If you have purchased a car which previously had an RMVR logbook, you will need to submit the car for eligibility again. Having a prior logbook with a prior owner does not insure that the car still meets eligibility requirements. The club’s familiarity with the car will help expedite the process. The previous car number assigned by RMVR does not go with a car when sold. You can apply for that same number, but the club reserves the right to assign a new number. We’ll try, but can’t guarantee the same number is still available.

Oh, by the way, is your RMVR membership current? And are you ready to go racing?
