2008 Trans-Am Invitational
We had 180 race cars at this year’s event with seven run groups including the Historic cars (and drivers). Sedan racing is really catching on! Thanks goes to out to everyone who made it a great event. Our special guests Pete Luongo, Tom Blank, and Buzz Dyer have sent their warmest thanks to all of us for a special weekend. This year’s souvenir race program tells the story!

Additional information about this year’s event follows:
Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing will again be commemorating the glory days of the Trans-Am Series during June 13-15, 2008 at Pueblo Motorsports Park, just south of the former Continental Divide Raceways. The track is a 2.2-mile course with challenging elevation change, long straights, and a mix of corners including a high-speed Turn One. Passing is possible most everywhere on the track, making it great for Trans-Am racing. The elevation is 4,900 feet and requires re-jetting for those coming from lower elevations.
This event features the sedans of the Trans-Am series. The Trans-Am run group will include big and small sedans through 1972. This group includes the championship winning Porsche 911s and Datsun 510s that raced hammer-and- tong with the Alfa GTAs. Of course, the over 2-liter Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, Barracudas, Javelins, Darts, and Cougars will also be racing wheel to wheel for podium positions. Expect to see many cars from out of state competing at this event.
The big sportscars will be in attendance including the B-Production Corvettes, GT350s, and Jags. These cars competed for the BP national championship in the 1960s and this special race group creates the excitement of this great racing. Also featured will be the fastest of the fast production cars including the AP big block Corvettes and Exhibition vintage and modern race cars. Guests from local and regional car clubs will be attending to participate in this dynamic display of vintage racing cars.
There will also be a number of special cars on display in the paddock Saturday and Sunday. Included will be exotic sportscars, muscle cars, salt flat racers, drag cars, and hot rods. Guests are invited to bring a car to show. To register for the car show, contact Jess Neal at cudaracer48@msn.com.
Some of the best racing will be taking place amongst the open wheel Formula cars and small bore sports cars. These cars are driven at very high speeds in true wheel to wheel competition. Post 1972 cars may run under the club’s Exhibition rules and must carry the required safety equipment and competition driver’s license.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with practice and track orientation. Friday sessions are paid separately at the gate. One practice session and two qualifying races are scheduled for Saturday. Two extended races will take place on Sunday to emulate the 250-mile endurance racing format of the Trans-Am back in the day.
Trans-Am guest speakers will be featured at a track-side dinner Saturday evening June 14, 2008 including drivers, team members, and officials who participated in the Trans-Am series. Spectators are invited to join this special barbeque dinner and participate in the story telling and reliving of the special times involving these special cars. For dinner tickets, contact Diane at 303-319-3062. Dinner tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be sold at the track.
